Diving Buoyancy

diving buoyancy
What is the weight ratio for a weight belt for spearfishing?

I weigh 192 Lbs. I need to know how much weight do I need to put on my weight belt so I can dive better. Its in the ocean so theres some added buoyancy.

Start light, and see what works. Some people float or sink much more than others. If you’re using a wetsuit of some sort, put it in a mesh bag, and add weights until it just floats.

If you’re not using a wetsuit, I’d try just 2-3 lbs, and carry it, don’t put it on a belt. You want to be able to ditch that thing in a hurry if you need to. Then add or subtract a pound or so at a time, and see what feels good. Practice ditching the weight belt in shallow water until you can do it first time, every time. An emergency is not the time to find that the belt buckle sticks.

Neutral Buoyancy: Adventures in a Liquid World

$15.47

In Neutral Buoyancy, journalist and diver Tim Ecott takes you on a guided tour of the history of undersea exploration and the emergence of diving culture. He tells the extraordinary story of man’s attempts to breathe underwater, from the sponge divers described by Aristotle, to the development of sixteenth-century diving bells, to the invention of modern scuba equipment. Along the way, Ecott intersperses the story with his own thrilling adventures, from the waters of the South Pacific to the remote islands of the Seychelles, from explorations in the clear, flowing tides of Sardinia to a near-death experience in the cold gray depths of the English Channel. Filled with engaging stories of humanity’s conquest of the undersea world — and heart-pounding action that will leave you breathless — Neutral Buoyancy is a compelling blend of history and adventure, an exciting overview of the world of undersea diving.

Diving Cylinder

Diving Cylinder

$108.33

A diving cylinder, scuba tank or diving tank is used to store and transport high pressure breathing gas as a component of SCUBA (SelfContained Underwater Breathing Apparatus). It provides gas to the SCUBA diver through the demand valve of a diving regulator. Diving cylinders typically have an internal volume of between 3 and 18 litres (0.11 and 0.64 cu ft) and a maximum pressure rating from 200 to 300 bars (2,900 to 4,400 psi). The internal cylinder volume is also expressed as water capacity the volume of water which could be contained by the cylinder. When pressurised, a cylinder carries a volume of gas greater than its water capacity because gas is compressible. 600 litres (21 cu ft) of gas at atmospheric pressure is compressed into a 3litre cylinder when it is filled to 200 bar. Cylinders also come in smaller sizes, such as 0.2, 1.5 and 2 litres, however these are not generally used for breathing, instead being used for purposes such as Surface Marker Buoy, drysuit and buoyancy compensator inflation. Air Buddy Alternate Air Source, fits on BCD Inflator

Air Buddy Alternate Air Source, fits on BCD Inflator

$39.95

Air Buddy is the modern alternate air source. It is the smallest, safest and most convenient alternate air source on the market today. First introduced in 1996, it has become widely used by government agencies, sport divers around the world and commercial diving entities. The Air Buddy gives you 20% more breathingtime on a bottle of air than any other alternate air source. The Air Buddy is a miniature regulator second stage from which all the complicated and delicate parts have been removed, leaving only one moving part, the tilt valve. In a normal second stage, inhaling causes the diaphragm to move inward, pressing a lever which opens the needle valve allowing air from the low pressure hose to flow into your mouth. Sea Turtle replaced the needle valve witha heavy duty tilt valve in the Air Buddy. To open the tilt valve in the Air Buddy, you simply squeeze the mouthpiece with a biting movement of your mouth. That releases the air from the low pressure hose, giving you PPAS. Positive Pressure Air Source means that your mouth will be flooded with air at a higher pressure than that of the water around you, no matter what your depth may be, forcing the water out of your mouth and allowing you to breathe. You stop the air by relaxing your pressure on the mouthpiece. The BCD-Air Buddy will mount on any standard size quick connect hose on your buoyancy compensator. It is out of your way until you need it. The BCD-Air Buddy swivels in any direction, so it is just as easy for you as your dive buddy to use. It functions equally well upside down as right side up. To get your supply of breathing air, just bite it gently with your teeth and feel the air flood your mouth. The Air Buddy may be disconnected from the power inflator during use and kept inthe mouth to breathe while the power inflator is held over the head to bleed

Blue Steel Faber Low Pressure Steel Tank - 95 cu, 15L

Blue Steel Faber Low Pressure Steel Tank – 95 cu, 15L

$329.95

If you are not using steel cylinders, try to use one and you will soon realize what you have been missing. Faber can offer you the most comprehensive range of cylinders for Scuba Diving. Every year we produce and sell around the world 100.000 cylinders for scuba diving (out of 600.000 in totals). No other manufacturer in the world can match our capabilities and the breadth of our range. Faber Tanks and valves are nitroxready. Cylinders come equipped with a DIN/K type valve that easily converts back and forth depending on the type of First-Stage Regulator to be used in conjunction with the cylinder increasing the versatility of the tank. Steel cylinders are heavier then the same capacity aluminum cylinder. This characteristic has many advantages. The heavier construction allows the diver toremove lead weight from their weight belt or integrated weight system of the BCD, allowing the diver to better distribute weight by moving it to the rear of the BCD a great advantage when wearing a back inflation style (Wing) BCD. Aluminum cylinders as we breathe the weight of air from them create positive buoyancy at or near the end of a dive. The steel cylinder with its negative buoyancy throughout the dive allows you to shed the excess lead that is requiredto keep you properly trimmed while you dive an aluminum cylinder. Faber LP cylinders have a round bottom and come equipped with a cylinder boot.
